Spiritual Pathways
A Talking Circle Workshop
"Identifying Our Journey"

Focus is on how different paths can lead to the same place and on the identification and opening of these channels, our Spiritual Pathways, through ceremonial communication - also to help prepare participants for deeper levels of learning, involvement and personal growth.

Expectations of the contemporary workshop are that something will be worked out and that learning will take place. Spiritual Pathways combines both of these concepts.

Spiritual Pathways uses and Smudging and The Talking Circle - both, respectfully borrowed from Native America.  Smudging is a purification practice that involves the burning of substances such as Sage, Cedar, Pine, Sweetgrass or Copal. The resulting smoke is directed to who/what is being purified.

In the traditional Native American Talking Circle participants gather because of a common bond or purpose- at the very least a sincerity in wanting to speak to and be heard and also listen to what the others in the group have to say - all in a safe, supportive ceremonial environment.

A feather, stick, stone or other object is passed from person to person. when the object is passed to a person it is that persons turn to speak - share thoughts, feelings, insights ,visions or anything else that is sincere, spontaneous and heartfelt.

When the talker is finished he or she then passes the "talking object  to the next person on their left. At this point, to more definitely signal completion, special words may be spoken. The words Mitakuye Qas'in (all my relation), pass, or finished may be used.

An alter is also constructed for Spiritual Pathways. Each participant is invited to place sacred or special objects - crystals, feathers, jewelry or photographs are often used, to help establish and focus energy. These objects are returned to their owners afterwards.

Equality important, after the Talking circle segment is over there is opportunity for question and answer, rap or other agenda - the ideas, concerns and input of the participants becoming the subject matter.
